Chub in chaos: Pedelec theft and serious accidents shake the city!

There have been some violent incidents in the Döbeln region in recent days, keeping both the police and residents on their toes. On August 14, 2025, several exciting and worrying events were reported.

A particularly striking incident occurred on Am Hauptbahnhof street in Döbeln, where a valuable Pedelec tandem worth around 7,000 euros was stolen. Unknown perpetrators took advantage of the opportunity between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning and left only the front wheel at the crime scene.

Cause of accident unclear

Another serious incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Großhartmannsdorf. A 69-year-old driver of a Dacia collided with an oncoming police VW van on the B 101. Both drivers had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries. In this context, the material damage amounts to around 53,000 euros. The federal highway had to be closed for around four hours, which caused a lot of traffic jams.

Of course, we hope for a quick recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, there were a number of other traffic accidents in the area. On Thursday night, a 28-year-old motorcyclist fell on the B 173 and also suffered serious injuries. A blessing in disguise that no material damage was specifically stated.

Vandalism and thefts

But that's not all the worrying news: A 65-year-old man was arrested in Döbeln on Tuesday evening after he damaged a monument on Schillerstrasse and shouted anti-Semitic slogans. The police have launched an investigation into property damage, sedition and trespassing, and the property damage amounts to several thousand euros.

Thefts in the region are also reaching alarming proportions. A tractor worth around 69,000 euros was stolen in Niederschöna. The police are urgently appealing for witnesses who may have observed something. A break-in at a fast food restaurant in Freiberg ended with cash being stolen, so significant property damage is also expected here.

Road safety in focus

Amid these worrying incidents, road safety is once again a key issue. After a collision between a VW Passat and a VW Golf in Leisnig-Minkwitz, in which both drivers were slightly injured, the authorities once again demonstrated the importance of being careful on the road.

Police involvement is essential at this time. Numerous controls have been introduced to combat drunk driving and similar offenses. A 39-year-old driver in Penig, for example, was driving at a blood alcohol level of 1.4, which resulted in significant property damage.

The numerous incidents of the last few days show us that the security situation in Döbeln and the surrounding area is characterized by a tense atmosphere. Residents are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. What is it called? “Caution is the best safety”. Calling for witnesses to the incidents could also provide additional information and help catch the perpetrators.

So we can only hope that the coming days will be calmer and that the people in the region can return to their usual level of safety.
