Chub rocks: Dermatologist sleeps in the gym for cycling adventures!
The city of Döbeln is currently a center for cycling tourists, as the 18th edition is currently taking place. Tour of the East takes place, which brings together cyclists from all over the region. Among the participants is the 61-year-old dermatologist Ellen Syhre from Döbeln, who is staying overnight in the city sports hall together with over 110 other cycling enthusiasts. Syhre has been taking part in the Dresden company Festunion's bike tours for six years and has come to appreciate not only the sporting challenges, but also the community at such events.
This Tuesday morning, head of the building department Thomas Hanns will start the tour around Döbeln with around 150 cyclists. The Tour de Osten begins in Chemnitz, the cultural capital of Europe, and will cover a total of 63 kilometers and 650 meters of altitude. The participants checked into Döbeln on Monday afternoon and ended the evening with grilled food and music.
Sporting challenge and community
For many like 68-year-old Dietmar Schenk, who is in the East for the first time, spending the night in the sports hall was part of the adventure. On Tuesday, a tour of over 60 kilometers long is on the program, which starts at the Obermarkt and leads through the region along popular routes. Early risers can take part in early morning exercise before the start, initiated by Peter Binder from the KSJC.
The planned route leads through the picturesque Zschopautal, with stops in Mittweida and Waldheim. Some cyclists had to be picked up in the so-called “broom wagon”, which shows that the tour was not without its challenges. 23 people, including competent guides and a dedicated paramedic, ensure that the event runs smoothly.
Prices and outlook
Participation in the Tour de Osten is not entirely cheap; prices range from 550 euros for early birders in collective accommodation to 1,500 euros for single rooms in hotels. Included are overnight stay with breakfast, lunch during the stages, a standard tour shirt, luggage transport and a repair service. These findings and further information can be found on the website radtourlaub.de find.
After returning from the tour, participants can take part in the city tour and explore some of Döbeln's sights, including the city wall, the half-timbered building and the market square. The whole thing promises not only a great sporting experience, but also a festive get-together. The next stage finally leads to Bad Liebenwerda and ends in Lübbenau, where the cyclists are welcomed with champagne and music.
The variety of tours in Germany is almost inexhaustible, and it is not for nothing that cycling has enjoyed a huge upswing in recent years.
