Freiberg on red alert: unknown people set a tree on fire!
Unreason is rampant in Freiberg. Late on Thursday afternoon, more precisely around 5:45 p.m., the fire department was alerted after unknown people set fire to a pile of dry needles under a pine tree by improperly handling fireworks. The incident occurred in the area of the sports field on Chemnitzer Straße. The flames quickly spread to the tree and threatened to spread to the adjacent meadow. Fortunately, the fire department was able to quickly bring the situation under control and extinguish the fire in time. The police have started investigating the unpleasant incident and are looking for the perpetrators. Freie Presse reports that ....
The risk associated with the improper handling of fireworks should not be underestimated. Accidents caused by carelessness and negligence often occur during celebrations such as New Year's Eve or August 1st. Between 2018 and 2022, there were around 200 accidents in Switzerland during the August 1st celebrations alone. Essential safety rules should therefore be strictly observed. The safety rules from Suva include, among other things, the purchase of tested fireworks, careful storage and the note that rockets must not be ignited in the hand.
Increase security awareness
The Herdecke Volunteer Fire Department advises always to be careful when handling fireworks. Every year, German citizens spend millions of euros on fireworks, and the number of accidents is constantly increasing. Unfortunately, alcohol and bad decisions are common causes of New Year's Eve intoxication. It is important to only use tested fireworks with a CE mark and to always burn them away from crowds of people. With a little caution, many accidents can be prevented. The Herdecke fire department provides valuable tips.
The basic rules include keeping a sufficient safe distance and never setting off unused fireworks too close to children or people who are intoxicated. Parents should be role models and educate their children. It is not uncommon for children to be harmed by improper handling of fireworks, as previous statistics show. The most common injuries occur particularly to the hands and fingers.
Preparedness for emergencies
Good preparation can save lives in the event of a fire. In the event of a fire, those affected should leave the room immediately, close windows and doors and alert the fire department. A bucket of water or a fire extinguisher should be nearby so that you can act quickly in an emergency. Flammable materials should always be kept away from fireworks and it is advisable to follow important rules on New Year's Eve. Further information can be found at Suva.
