The highlight of the Highland Games in Leisnig: Strong and hotly contested!
On June 28, 2025, the Altendorf district in Leisnig will be transformed into a Scottish festival for young and old. The “Kilt’n’Strong” event, a fabulous variant of the popular Highland Games, attracts participants from Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the USA and offers exciting competitions amidst magnificent backdrops. SV Altenhof, under the leadership of club chairman Jens Riedel, organizes the spectacle, which has now been established for five years and is a highlight in the event calendar every year. Sächsische reports that attractive competitions and free entry are guaranteed!
At exactly 30 degrees in the shade, the brave participants showed great performances in various disciplines, including the Conan Wheel with a weight of 200 kg, the weight toss with a weight of 25.4 kg, stone put and the log toss, also known as the Caber Toss. The sporting challenges guaranteed a special kind of spectacle. Among the 19 participants who faced the hot temperatures, Johan Langhorst from the Netherlands stood out for the men and Sina Ruppenthal from Dortmund for the women: Langhorst took first place, while Ruppenthal celebrated her competition premiere with a victory. Moritz Mader from Dortmund particularly impressed the audience when he lifted an incredible 400 kg on the Axle Bar.
A celebration for the whole family
The “Little Scotland” purpose for children proved to be a real crowd puller. Here the little ones could test their strength and let off steam in a game in a climbing and romping area. With spectator numbers between 500 and 700, the event was well attended and the sense of community was noticeable, while the event was made possible through sponsorship and the active support of the club members.
But that was just the start of exciting weeks in the Highland Games. On August 1st to 3rd, 2025, another event will take place for the first time in Ohrdruf, Thuringia, where Kilt'N'Strong will be responsible for the sports management. These games offer both highland competitions and exciting strongman disciplines. Kilt and Strong informs that participants can not only test their strength by throwing logs, but also in a new challenge, the Caber Challenge.
Looking forward to more
Another highlight is on the agenda for Highland fans in September 2025, when the international Highland Games will be held in Trebsen from September 19th to 21st. Here spectators can look forward to exciting competitions in various classes. So nothing stands in the way of traditional competitions such as the weight throw, which was also a hit at Guteneck Castle for the first time this year. Oberpfalzecho emphasizes that the event not only features breathtaking disciplines, but also offers a varied supporting program with culinary delicacies and children's activities.
The Highland Games are more than just competition – they are a celebration of culture and community spirit. With great results and anticipation of upcoming events, the signs in Leisnig and beyond are “full throttle” for the next flights into Scottish tradition!
