Rabbit magic in Oederan: 31st district young animal exhibition attracts visitors!
Next weekend, more precisely on August 16th and 17th, Oederan will be the venue for the 31st district young animal exhibition. The pedigree rabbit breeding association S 385 Oederan e.V. put around 150 hours of painstaking work into the preparation. The exhibition takes place in the former penny market on Eppendorfer Straße, where lovers and curious people can look forward to the variety of pedigree rabbits. Opening times are on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., which offers plenty of opportunity to admire the animals and exchange information.
This year, visitors will be treated to a colorful selection of pedigree rabbits. Among others, the German giants, the light large silvers and the blue and gray Viennese are shown. The exhibitors come from the Central Saxony, Chemnitz and Klingenberg region. A great way to get to know your passion for raising rabbits!
A celebration for the whole family
The event should not only be exciting for breeders. An extensive gastronomic offering and a large tombola ensure the right atmosphere. There is also a craft corner for children, so even the youngest ones get their money's worth. Such events promote enthusiasm for animal husbandry and are important opportunities for exchange among breeders.
The pedigree rabbit breeders' association, which was founded in 1907, currently has 16 members aged 14 to 87. The cub exhibition is the highlight of the year and is supplemented by several meetings throughout the year to continually improve breeding practices. Pedigree rabbit breeders attach particular importance to keeping and feeding their animals in a species-appropriate manner. Some tips for optimal feeding include water and high-quality hay as a staple food, as well as additional forage, beets and carrots in winter. Pressed feed is used with different energy contents depending on the breed, so that every breeder has a good hand with his breeding.
A look beyond the city limits
Outside of Oederan, the focus is also on pedigree rabbits and breeding. In Angermünde, the pedigree rabbit breeding club D5 is presenting a variety of colorful rabbits and hares at another exhibition in the Birkenallee riding arena. This event is also taking place this weekend, with opening hours on Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday until 12pm. Here visitors have the opportunity to watch how the best animals are chosen on Sunday.
The Gustav Bruhn primary school in Angermünde also enjoyed second place in the state competition for the most sporty school, which was rewarded with prize money of 1,000 euros. These funds will go towards a project for inline skaters and show how important exercise is in everyday school life, which could perhaps also be inspiring for the younger visitors to the rabbit show.
Rabbit farming has changed a lot over the years. What was initially characterized by economic aspects is now viewed more and more as a hobby and leisure activity. Around 160,000 breeders are organized in the Central Association of German Rabbit Breeders, and social interest in these animals is constantly growing. Today, breeding and keeping takes place in modern stables under species-appropriate conditions and with careful feeding.
This is an excellent opportunity for animal lovers and those interested to find out more about pedigree rabbits. Visit the exhibitions in Oederan and Angermünde and be inspired by the diversity and commitment of the breeders!
