Leisnig fights against stench: new pumping station brings a breath of fresh air!

In Leisnig, people are facing the challenge of a persistent problem: the stench from the canal on Chemnitzer Straße has been causing resentment among residents for years. But now the situation is being addressed: the wastewater pumping station at Chemnitzer Straße 92 is being renovated. This was recently approved by the city council after Mayor Carsten Graf received the necessary water permits from the authorities. The measure costs around 166,000 euros and is part of the economic plan for 2025.

The renovation, which is being carried out by Erdmann Bau GmbH from Mügeln, is scheduled to be completed by December. The work is planned between mid-September and mid-December without affecting wastewater disposal during this time. The goal is clear: the quality of life of the residents should be increased, as there have already been complaints about the unpleasant smell in the past. Unsuccessful attempts were already made in 2020 to use chemicals to reduce odor nuisance in the wastewater plant in Meinitz, which underlines the urgency of this renovation.

Modernization for less energy consumption

A central part of the renovation is the replacement of two pumps, which will consume less energy in the future. For this purpose, a new shaft is made, which is made of polyethylene and is manufactured according to a modern 3D model. Tobias Ehlers from Veolia emphasized the need to select the right materials for this, as the delivery time is several months. In the future, the control of the new system will be placed directly in the pumping station in order to increase efficiency.

The causes of odor nuisance in residential areas are often defective or improperly installed sewage systems. Escaping liquids and foul gases not only lead to unpleasant smells, but can also cause significant damage that is expensive to repair. The specialists at LB Rohr und Kanaltechnik in Mainz provide proactive support in such cases and use modern camera technology to quickly and cost-effectively identify and repair the causes of the odor nuisance. This expertise is also needed in Leisnig in order to get the problem under control in the long term.

First steps towards an odor-free future

The city's measures are a first step toward getting rid of the nasty smell once and for all. The residents have also recognized the importance of this issue and express their hopes for a sustainable solution. Because no one wants to constantly suffer from the odor nuisance, which not only significantly affects the quality of life but also the ability to work.

Leisnig shows that local actors and modern technology can work hand in hand to improve matters and offer citizens a more pleasant environment. By the time the renovation is completed, the city hopes to not only have solved the technical problems, but also to regain citizens' trust that such challenges will be addressed effectively.
