Mass crash on the A4: helicopter deployment after serious accident!

On Wednesday evening, July 16, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident at around 6:30 p.m. on the A4 in the direction of Dresden, immediately after the Hainichen exit. A total of seven vehicles were involved and 11 people were affected. While two people involved in the accident received medical treatment on site, one person had to be taken to hospital. The other nine people affected were lucky and luckily remained uninjured. Blick reports that the carriageway is currently completely closed.

The situation on site was anything but easy for the emergency services. The Hainichen fire department was on site with several emergency vehicles and over 8 rescue workers. Emergency services from surrounding cities such as Frankenberg, Chemnitz and Mittweida also provided valuable support. A rescue helicopter also arrived quickly. However, no one was transported by the helicopter, so air raid protection ultimately did not have to be used.

Cause of accident and investigation

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. The police have already started an investigation to shed more light on what happened. In view of the fact that the motorway in this area is often affected by traffic accidents, the evaluation of this year's traffic accident statistics will be of great importance. These statistics not only serve as a basis for state transport policy, but also provide valuable insights into accident types, causes and consequences.

A similar tragic incident recently occurred on the A4 near Frechen on June 3rd. Five vehicles, including trucks, collided here and at least six people were injured, one of them seriously. This person, a 43-year-old man, was in mortal danger and had to be flown by rescue helicopter to the university hospital in Cologne. In this accident, there were massive problems getting to the emergency services due to the lack of an emergency lane, which led to a significant time delay. The ADAC has already pointed out that the importance of emergency lanes is often underestimated by road users, which in this case became a negative factor.

Road safety in focus

The emergency situation on the A4 not only underlines the need for a risky traffic situation, but also the importance of proper preparation for future events. With the increasing number of transport services and participants, the responsibility for road safety also increases. Traffic education and infrastructure improvement measures need to be seriously considered.

There was a lot going on in the air on the A4 on Wednesday, but hopefully the cause will be clarified quickly so that situations like this can be avoided in the future. The population is asked to pay attention to road safety and not to neglect legal regulations, such as the emergency lane.
