From handball player to artist: Tom Handel shapes Döbeln's art scene!
Chub shows its most creative side. The art scene is really blossoming in the city, and the focus is on 27-year-old Tom Handel. The freelance artist, who is currently shaping the city with his impressive works, has transformed himself from a handball player into a recognized artist. His adventure in art began six years ago when he discovered graffiti art. Inspired by the colorful wall designs in his hometown and an art class at school, he finally found his creative voice. As dnn.de reports, his most visible work to date is a large one Boot sculpture that stands at the Döbelner Theater and is part of a parade of twelve sculptures.
But dealer is not the only artist active in Döbeln. The recently opened art gallery *Artheriè*, which is picturesquely housed in a former jewelry studio of Karoline Kempe on Ritterstrasse, brings new life. The gallery shows, among other things, 64 works by eight talented artists, including Döbelner with impressive roots. The second round of the exhibition with Karolina Kempe and Sven Rockstroh promises to bring together some old acquaintances and new faces. In addition, one wall of the gallery is decorated with works of art by Heiko Mattausch, who presented the latest view of historic Dresden at the opening. This initiative also focuses on the city's dynamic cultural scene, as saechsische.de illustrates.
A new chapter for Tom Handel
After previously working in the city administration as an administrative assistant, Merchant has now taken the leap into self-employment and is giving up his job for creative freedom. He currently works in his parents' janitorial service so he can concentrate on his artistic projects. In recent years he has already completed two large projects in Riesa, including an impressive 100 meter long mural.
On December 5th, Handel’s next exhibition entitled “Tom Handel and friends” opens at the Gourmandise. This shows not only his own works, but also collaborative projects that he has realized with other artists. Merchant is determined to remain active in his hometown and continue to promote creativity there. As he put it, the artistic development of Döbeln is very important to him.
