Bad Düben: Citizens protest against wind farms – they demand a say!
In Bad Düben, the dispute over wind power is in full swing. At a recent City Council meeting held at Heide Elementary School, the public appeared divided on this controversial issue. Although many chairs in the room remained empty, concerns about the possible change in quality of life, the distance to wind turbines, nature conservation and the microclimate were still noticeable. Citizens showed their displeasure before the meeting by protesting with posters against the planned wind power projects. the LVZ reports that Mayor Astrid Münster called for people to have a say in the planning.
The regional planning plan envisages three areas for wind power in the area around Bad Düben: an area of 63.5 hectares between the Tiglitzer Forest and Görschlitz, as well as areas south of the B183 in the area of Badrina and Brösen. The pressure to designate wind power areas is high in the political sphere: The Wind Energy Area Requirements Act obliges the federal states to designate at least 1.3% of the state's area for wind power by the end of 2027 and 2% by the end of 2032. Against this background, Mayor Münster reported that resistance among the population is growing, although so far there have been no official objection motions in the state or federal parliament.
Joint planning and information event
In order to give the concerned population a voice, the city of Bad Düben plans to actively participate in the planning process and involve the surrounding communities of Löbnitz, Schönwölkau and Laußig. Potential investors have already expressed interest in wind power projects in the region. At the city council meeting, inter-municipal cooperation on the development of wind farms in Badrina/Brösen was also decided. This involves around 30 hectares that are intended for wind use, as well as areas on the B183. This was decided unanimously in order to secure urban planning and prevent unwanted developments during the planning phase.
Anyone interested has the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information. On October 9, 2025, an information event on the subject of wind power will take place in the Badrina hall at Ernst-Thälmann-Straße 20 in Schönwölkau. From 5 p.m., citizens have the chance to question experts and discuss their points of view. The focus here is on the development of the Badrina/Brösen wind areas, which also includes the affected areas of Bad Düben, Schönwölkau and Löbnitz. It is a suitable forum to reduce fears and discuss the future use of wind power together. The city of Bad Düben cordially invites you to this informative evening.
