Relaxation soon: B87 construction site in Gordemitz is about to be completed!
The construction site on the B87 in Gordemitz near Jesewitz is nearing completion. Mayor Ralf Tauchnitz has announced that the work should be completed in November 2023, although a specific date has not yet been set. The last section of the sidewalk is currently being finalized, and with the end of single-lane traffic, the sometimes tense traffic situation will also ease. Traffic lights currently cause traffic jams, especially during rush hour, which is a thorn in the side of many drivers.
The people of Jesewitz have been trying to create a safe sidewalk on the B87 for over 20 years. This is not only important for pedestrians, but also makes it easier to access the Gordemitz/B87 bus stop. The walkway was originally scheduled to be completed in spring 2023, but unforeseen problems, such as locating an unsuspected cable, have led to delays. Laying this cable required additional applications and permits, which significantly impacted the timeline. Fortunately, around 800,000 euros have been budgeted for the project and there are no known additions.
Investments in infrastructure
As part of a master plan for infrastructure development around Leipzig/Halle Airport, a joint project was initiated between the municipality and the Saxon State Office for Road Construction and Transport in 2023. The Free State of Saxony is supporting the measures with one-off special financing of 24 million euros from the 2023/24 double budget. The associated master plan provides for a total of 30 measures that will also benefit Jesewitz. The community only has to cover around 10 percent of the costs.
Another important aspect of the project is the planned construction of new sidewalks and cycle paths along the B87 and B107. As lasuv.sachsen.de reports through the LISt Society for Transport and Engineering Services mbH, the status of the new construction of sidewalks and cycle paths will be presented on December 14th. A pedestrian and cycle path is planned along the B87 over around 3 kilometers and should be 2.5 meters wide. The preliminary investigation to determine a preferred variant is almost complete, and design planning is scheduled to begin in early 2024.
Future outlook
The approval planning will be necessary after the draft planning, followed by the plan approval process at the Saxony State Directorate, which is responsible for building law. The construction time is estimated to be around one year, although no fixed start of construction is possible due to the outstanding planning and approval steps.
With the upcoming improvements to the B87 and B107, residents expect noticeable relief. The corresponding measures are not only an important improvement for the infrastructure in Jesewitz, but also make a significant contribution to the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Let's hope that the citizens of Jesewitz will soon be able to reap the fruits of these long-awaited projects, which will make everyday life a little easier.
