Eilenburg is blooming: Third Art Week inspires with diversity and flair!

Things are just coming to life in the small town of Eilenburg, as the third Art Week officially opened its doors on August 23, 2025. The festive start took place in the historic St. Nikolai Church, where the opening vernissage took place. Art lovers and those interested come together here to experience a colorful program of pictures, photographs, music, light and dance. During the opening speech, Pastor Edelgard Richter emphasized how important the exchange between old and new and community are for a lively city.

The diversity of the art week is also evident in the participants. Children from the Protestant primary school as well as regional artists such as Volker Pohlenz show off their skills. Pohlenz is no stranger; he has already created over 1,300 works and is now exhibiting some of his sketches and designs. Jens Lehmann, from the tourism and trade association, emphasizes that there will be a total of 47 art events in the next eight days. This includes over 150 works, three galleries, 13 concerts, theater performances and a lively art market.

Artistic highlights

A particularly exciting year for the art week as it takes place in the anniversary year of “100 Years of Bauhaus”. Well-known artists such as Julia Geist show their works and are part of the program. André Kurtzke, who presents a commissioned work by Geist with his real estate office, also causes a stir because his “real estate shark” is a real eye-catcher. Visitors like Friedlinde Danzmann emphasize the importance of art in everyday life and praise the initiative that is intended to promote encounters in the city.

Exciting events are also on the program as part of the art week. Among other things, an ART MARKET will take place on August 27th in front of the town hall. Another highlight is the opening of the new open-air stage at the castle association's gatehouse, a cultural milestone in the city's history.

A network for the future

The current art week is also viewed in the context of the larger program “LOKAL – Program for Culture and Engagement”. This model project aims to build at least 26 long-term networks in cities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants in order to strengthen culture as a social meeting place. Within this framework, projects can apply for up to 240,000 euros for four years, which opens up numerous new opportunities for Eilenburg to further promote cultural life. For example, European exchange opportunities for funded projects are planned from autumn 2025, which could further stimulate cultural exchange.

Overall, Eilenburg shows itself to be a vibrant place of creativity and dialogue during the art week. The coming week promises many more experiences and encounters for everyone interested in art and the population of the region. Stay tuned for a colorful autumn full of culture and art!
