Landsberger Brewery closes: A big loss for the region!
There is great excitement in the region about the closure of the traditional Landsberg brewery. Production management has announced that the final bottling will take place by the end of the year, which represents a painful loss for many beer lovers. High costs and inadequate support in the region led to this decision, as company boss Jenny Thormann reports. Sales of inventory will begin in January 2026. It is particularly sad to say goodbye to popular types of beer such as “Stolzer Hahn”, “Schräger Vogel” and “Starke Sau”, which will soon disappear. The economic difficulties were exacerbated by the energy crisis and a decline in malt sales. Since the brewery only has 13 employees, it cannot compete against large corporations such as Radeberger or Hasseröder. The end of the malt factory, which was founded in 1871, is not only an economic but also a cultural blow to the region.
Another topic that concerns the city is the development of new properties for private homes in the Leipzig area. MPN GmbH has presented plans for a new residential area in Pehritzsch, where 35 building sites will be developed. The plots have sizes of up to 1100 square meters. The development work is expected to take around nine months, so that the first owners can move in by Christmas 2026. For many young families in the region, this could be a welcome opportunity to fulfill their dream of owning their own home.
New culinary offer in Zwochau
Ein Lichtblick in dieser Zeit ist die Eröffnung der neuen Kantine „La Bohème“ in Zwochau, die von den Köchen Tommy Gerlach und Mathias Lange betrieben wird. Here you can get freshly prepared home-style food for less than eight euros. The canteen also plans holiday meals for Christmas and offers delivery to area businesses. This could enrich the region's culinary landscape and appeal to the local population.
News from the Jura
In addition, there is an exciting court case that will take place at the Eilenburg District Court in the next few weeks. Four young men have to answer for various crimes, including violence and threats. In these disputes, one of the accused with the most brutal act has already gone to court and witnesses are expected to testify, which gives the trial even more explosiveness.
There is also trouble regarding the events at Hubertusburg Castle. After a year without open-air concerts, actors are now hoping for a comeback in 2026. There were extensive discussions about monument protection, but the community and the organizers were able to reach an agreement. For the return, Matthias Reim will perform at the castle on an anniversary tour.
