Löwen-Apotheke Oschatz: Company of the Year 2025 honored!
The Löwen-Apotheke in Oschatz can look back on a long tradition and was most recently named Company of the Year 2025 on June 30, 2025. This award was presented on Thursday evening by the city council, which voted in favor of the decision with a majority and only one abstention. Katja Klingner, who has been responsible for the pharmacy since May 1, 2007, was pleased about the honor, which she sees as a thank you for her many years of dedicated service to the city. The award ceremony will take place on September 16th in the Thomas Müntzer House.
The history of the Löwen Pharmacy goes back to 1510. The pharmacist Hieronymus Ortheim founded the company in Barthel Fischheim's premises at Neumarkt 9, where the pharmacy is still located today. Significant investments were made under the leadership of Hans-Joachim Howe, who took over the pharmacy on January 1, 1975. Since privatization in 1990, the pharmacy has undergone various modernizations that have led to its current appearance. The pharmacy currently employs ten women in various positions, including pharmacists and pharmaceutical-technical assistants, as well as two men as messengers.
A piece of history
What makes the Löwen-Apotheke so special? For many, it is not just a place for medication, but a piece of Oschatz's history. So it is not surprising that the pharmacy is part of the region's cultural heritage. The long-standing anchoring in the cityscape and the trust of the population speak for themselves. The pharmacy has adapted over the centuries while never completely losing sight of its origins, which underlines its importance.
The Company of the Year award is important not only for the pharmacy itself, but also for the community. It promotes local awareness and supports the initiative to strengthen local businesses. Previous award winners include P-D Glasseiden GmbH, the construction company TAF and Lebenshilfe Oschatz, which won the award in 2022.
In addition to the Löwen-Apotheke, there are numerous other pharmacies in Oschatz, each with their own story to tell. Many pharmacies, such as the Wiesental Pharmacy, which was taken over by pharmacist Julius Schmidt in 1937, have a similar history and thus embody the diversity and tradition of the pharmacy profession in the region.
