New Torgau Cultural Center: More transparency in event management!
Something is happening in the Torgauer Kulturhaus! After an intensive discussion over the past few years and some “wrongful developments” in the financial area, the city is now drawing the necessary conclusions. Mayor Henrik Simon has made it clear that the time has come for a comprehensive review of the events. The motives cannot be dismissed: Concerns have been raised in the city council, and the level of subsidies in particular has been criticized, as the AfD parliamentary group leader Glimpel has made clear. Torgau's share of these grants is currently 10% and amounts to 108,000 euros.
The responsibilities within the Torgau-Kultur association are clearly regulated. From 2025, new rules of procedure will create more transparency and control to prevent future grievances. The city council and mayor have adjusted the future statutes: Among other things, the city center management will be handed back to the city and the number of board members will be limited to five to seven. These changes are intended to help ensure that the different currents in the club can be kept better under control.
New board and vacant positions
There is a particularly exciting twist regarding event management: the position has been vacant since summer 2024, and the city has now published a new advertisement for the position. Eight applicants responded to this advertisement, including six who had the necessary qualifications. Interviews with two candidates have already been scheduled and a final decision is expected in early 2026. The goal is to find a new event manager who will also take responsibility for marketing and public relations.
In the meantime, a new board of the Torgau-Kultur association has been elected, led by Henrik Simon as chairman. He is supported by Marcus Ende as deputy chairman as well as Andreas Huth, Henry Goldammer (CDU), Julia Sachse (SPD) and Sven Schart (AfD). Josef Tremmel remains a member of the association, even if he has left the board.
Diverse event program
What awaits viewers in November are:
- 1. Nov: CAVEMAN – Du Sammeln, Ich Jagen!
- 8. Nov: OPER ART ABSURDUM – Frauen Auf Der Überholspur
- 22. Nov: Norman Keil – Willst Du Mit Mir Gehen Tour 2025
But that's not all! In December there are also numerous highlights such as “The Powder Box” and the family concert “The Nutcracker” with the Saxon Wind Philharmonic on the program.
There is plenty of reason for those interested in culture to come to the Torgauer Kulturhaus. The city has achieved a lot through the innovations and shows that it is ready to actively shape both the challenges and the opportunities that the cultural sector offers. If everything goes according to plan, the cultural center could become an even hotter ticket in the region. The discussions on the 2026 budget are imminent and we will be excited to see how the financing of future events will develop.
