Soup instead of soft ice cream: We will be offering warm meals from November!
Winter is just around the corner, and that means a new challenge for the Sodanns ice cream parlor in Delitzsch. From November 11th there will no longer be the popular soft ice cream, but instead changing warm meals that are all about hearty delicacies. As the LVZ reports, the store will offer hearty food from Tuesday to Thursday for the winter months, creating a nice variety in the offering.
The ice cream season ended at the end of October, and owner Falk Sodann plans to use this time wisely. “The year wasn't good for us, especially because of personnel problems,” he explains. After sales veteran Detlef Maurer left the company in late summer for health reasons, Anja Horsch will now act as a representative. “We make the best of it” is the motto of the new winter season.
Hearty food for cold days
For hungry guests there will be a weekly selection of delicious dishes, including fish sandwiches with Bismarck herring and warm sausages. A classic of the cold season, the stews, are also a must. The first day starts with a hearty solyanka and potato soup. But that's not all, because there are two soups to choose from every day. And if you're slightly hungry, there's coffee to take away.
The prices are more than fair: a fish sandwich or a sausage only costs 3 euros, while a 700 milliliter portion of soup costs between 6 and 7 euros. The food is heated on site, although the full preparation of the food cannot take place there. This has to do with the necessary kitchen standards. But if you want to order larger quantities, you can also reserve the dishes in advance.
Nostalgia meets freshness
The ice cream parlor on Breite Straße is very popular in summer. Founded 14 years ago, it is one of the traditional contact points for ice cream lovers in Delitzsch. Production takes place in Leipzig and offers daily changing fresh varieties as well as frozen portions to take home. The coming ice cream season begins again in March, where guests can look forward to the beloved soft ice cream flavors.
A brief overview of the history of soft ice cream: The origins take us back to the 1930s in the USA, when Tom Carvel opened the first ice cream parlor with soft ice cream. Soft ice cream differs from conventional ice cream in its creamy consistency and is made using special machines. It is known to provide better flavor perception than solid ice cream, which is usually served at −18 °C. This is possible because soft ice cream is produced in a freezing cylinder at −6 °C. Funnily enough, Italian entrepreneurs take care of the marketing and occasionally claim credit for the invention of soft ice cream, while in France it is known as “glace italienne”, like that Wikipedia describes.
Sodanns' decision to restructure the ice cream parlor in the winter months has been well received by customers. There has been a positive response online from soft ice cream fans who are happy that the shop remains open and is not closing during the winter break. The tradition of food and coziness continues in Delitzsch during the cold season.
