Torgau Castle Chapel: On the way to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

What is happening in Torgau and the surrounding communities? A lot, you could say! Especially that one Torgauer newspaper reports on the exciting developments surrounding the castle chapel at Hartenfels Castle, which could become a potential candidate for UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was confirmed by a recent international conference. Interested readers can find out more about the scientific contributions in a 303-page volume entitled “Talking about the Torgau Castle Chapel”.

The highlight is undoubtedly the book presentation on Thursday, October 30th, at 3 p.m. in the castle chapel itself. Experts will not only provide information about the status of the World Heritage application, but also present uncovered wall paintings from the Cranach workshop. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Integration and volunteering

But it's not just culture that's in focus. Important steps are also being taken in integration. Northern Saxony has developed a municipal integration concept that particularly focuses on new rules for work opportunities and language courses. The key topics also include actively shaping integration and the experiences the district has gained in the process.

Another notable event is the volunteer campaign “We’re tackling it!”, which was completed in collaboration between Sparkasse Leipzig, LVZ, TZ and OAZ. On Tuesday, October 28th, six clubs in Torgau will be honored for their commitment. These come from the communities of Torgau, Belgern, Oschatz, Hohenossig, Bad Düben and Taucha. A nice sign of community spirit!

Local events

On November 1st and 2nd, the large pond in Torgau will be fished, and that guarantees a flow of visitors! The Wermsdorf Teichwirtschaft fishing festival also takes place on this occasion, where carp starting at around three kilograms are offered. A festival for everyone who is enthusiastic about regional products and culinary delights.

Anyone planning to visit a citizens' office of the North Saxony District Office on Wednesday, October 29th should note that they will be closed on that day due to internal training. A complete closure of the district road between Süptitz and Elsnig on October 28th and 29th will also cause inconveniences due to tree care work.

In conclusion, things are going well in the region! From cultural highlights to volunteer work and popular festivals – there is a lot to discover and experience.
