Danger of forest fires in Saxony: Fire brigade fights against flames and smoke!

On Monday, June 30, 2025, two forest fires broke out in Saxony, keeping emergency services on their toes. The first fire occurred in Dresden's Junge Heide, where the fire quickly spread to one hectare. The fire area was originally estimated to be around 2,400 square meters. The fire brigade and police were quickly there to bring the situation under control. Around 110 firefighters and 40 police officers were on duty, with Moritzburger Straße remaining closed while the fire was extinguished. Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed as a prominent cloud of smoke was visible from afar. MDR reports that the fire department is now looking for embers in order to finally put out the fire.

A little later, around 3:45 p.m., there was another fire in the North Saxony district, more precisely in Klitschmar. Around four hectares of forest and one hectare of field burned here. Despite the rapid response of emergency services, the fire in this area has not yet been completely extinguished, but is considered to be under control. Around 80 emergency services, supported by an expanded fire brigade from Saxony-Anhalt, were mobilized to extinguish the fire. Roads remained passable, but the smoke caused visibility on the A9 motorway between Wiedemar and Halle.

High risk of forest fires in Saxony

The current risk of forest fires in Saxony is particularly high. Due to the ongoing drought, the highest warning level 5 applies in many regions. This particularly affects the districts of Meißen, Görlitz, Bautzen and Northern Saxony. In these areas, it is recommended to avoid affected forest areas as the soil layers have dried out significantly due to low rainfall and high temperatures. Day24 highlights that even at the lower levels 4 and 5, strict precautionary measures are recommended.

The risk of forest fires should not be underestimated. Anyone traveling in the forests should strictly adhere to the rules. Open fires, including grilling and smoking, are prohibited year-round, regardless of forest fire danger level. Sachsen.de points out that unauthorized fires can result in fines. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid contact with open flames and to be considerate of forest vegetation, which can quickly catch fire in dry conditions.

The current situation clearly shows how important it is to take care of nature and follow the rules to prevent forest fires. The fire brigade and police are well prepared, but each individual can do their part to minimize the danger by taking these precautionary measures seriously and being considerate of nature.
