Saxony celebrates: Big anniversary and parade in Sebnitz!

On September 7, 2025, the largest folk festival in the state will be celebrated in Sebnitz, a charming town in southeast Saxony: Saxon Day. After the celebrations took a break for the last two years, this anniversary, which is taking place for the 30th time, will be celebrated in style. Under the motto “To blooming experiences”, exciting events are on the program that will delight visitors over three days from September 5th to 7th with a colorful mix of music, tradition and regional crafts. This year, for the first time, the festival will be held across borders with its Czech neighbor Dolní Poustevna, which makes the festival even more special and attracts many visitors who are looking forward to the cultural connections.

The focus of the celebrations is the big parade, which will be broadcast live on MDR television on Sunday at 2 p.m. Led by presenter Anja Koebel and reporter Silvio Zschage, the parade will feature numerous colorful participants. These range from chimney sweeps and firefighters to cheerleaders and musicians. They are all accompanied by bright sunshine and mid-summer temperatures – perfect conditions for celebrating together.

A celebration for everyone

The parade itself, which features around 1,800 participants and 90 pictures, as well as numerous floats and historic vehicles, has become the highlight of the festival weekend. In total, guests can look forward to twelve marching bands and bands, which enrich the atmosphere with their melodious sounds. “It was a really successful festival,” report the visitors as they look around the extensive festival grounds with its 14 areas that present crafts, traditional club work and regional culture. There is also a blue light mile with police, fire and rescue services as well as a fairground with numerous attractions.

Between 360 and 420 police officers ensured the safety of the guests over the three days of the event. The festival was largely peaceful, with a few exceptions where the police only had to file 20 reports. A 25-year-old came into focus for violating the Explosives Act and other crimes, but this did not affect security.

A look into the future

The organizers are setting new trends with a colorful range of live acts on the media stage and a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday evening at 10:30 p.m. The patronage of the event was guaranteed by the commitment of 180 Saxon clubs, associations and institutions who do everything in their power to contribute their part to the celebration.

The residents of Sebnitz were also very committed - in a referendum, 64 percent were in favor of applying for the folk festival. This shows the great interest in community events and strengthening local culture. The Day of the Saxons in Sebnitz, which took place in 2003, shows how important such celebrations are for community coexistence and regional traditions.

Overall, the Day of the Saxons promises to be an unforgettable experience that attracts visitors from near and far and keeps the old traditions alive. It is also a great opportunity for the numerous participants in the parade to present their club work and their craft and thus bring a piece of Saxon culture out into the world. Throughout the weekend it becomes clear: In Sebnitz we celebrate together, laugh and create memories that last!
