Saxony is experiencing a change in weather: heat wave over, rain and thunderstorms approaching!

In the last few days the weather in Saxony has changed from an oppressive heat wave to an unstable weather situation. Meteorologist Helga Scheef from the German Weather Service (DWD) explains that after temperatures of almost 40 degrees we are now facing cooler days with variable weather conditions. Today, onJuly 11, 2025, the Saxons can look forward to a friendly start to the day, but in the afternoon clouds gather again. According to the current weather reports, temperatures between 21 and 25 degrees can be expected, and showers and thunderstorms may also be noticeable. The weather situation is characterized by moist air that has settled over Saxony, resulting from a low pressure complex in Eastern Europe.

On Friday the weather situation will be accompanied by clouds and occasional showers. The forecast has focused on the coming days, but already suspects that the weather conditions will remain unstable for the weekend. Heavy rain is forecast for Saturday night, with up to 20 liters per square meter possible. Saturday itself will bring high temperatures of 21 degrees and the opinion that heavy rain is to be expected locally remains. The showers and thunderstorms continue on Sunday, with temperatures between 22 and 24 degrees, which many will find a welcome change after the hot days.

The next few days in detail

What the next few days will look like in terms of weather will be shown on Monday, where temperatures could rise to up to 28 degrees, but there is no talk of another heat wave. Meteorologist Scheef points out that there are no obvious high pressure influences in sight and that there are no continuous sunny days to be expected even after the weekend. There will continue to be showers and thunderstorms and the weather is only expected to calm down from Tuesday, with highs around 25 degrees and a lower chance of precipitation.

Climate change and regional weather extremes

This uncertain weather situation may not only be due to current meteorological factors, but is also favored by climate change, which is already having noticeable effects in Saxony. Increased temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns and more frequent weather extremes are no longer uncommon. The Saxon State Office for the Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) is closely monitoring these phenomena. Regional climate data is created here in order to develop adaptation strategies for various areas, such as water and horticulture. This data is available not only to authorities and scientists, but also to interested citizens.

The coming days will not only be characterized by unstable weather, but will also raise questions about how people in Saxony can adapt to the changed climatic conditions. While nature recovers from the heat wave, it will remain exciting to see how the weather will develop over the next few weeks. Looking at everyday weather forecasts will certainly become more important in the future, especially against the background of advancing climate change.
