Saxony's crafts in crisis: companies warn of collapse!

In Saxony, the craft sector seems to be stuck in a deep mood crisis. How MDR reported, only 37 percent of craft businesses rate their business situation as good. This is a decrease of almost 50 percent last year. The survey, which included around 1,300 companies, shows that 44 percent of companies expect business to deteriorate in the coming months - the lowest expectations in a decade.

Uwe Nostitz, President of the Saxon Crafts Association, gives politicians the task of acting quickly to improve the situation. Above all, the high burden of taxes and costs is putting pressure on the mood and the willingness to invest. The declining demand from private customers is another element that is exacerbating the situation. Nostitz warns: “The craft is dying quietly, especially in rural regions.”

Important demands on politics

The causes for the unfortunate situation are varied. In addition to the reluctance of private customers, the high costs put a huge strain on companies. The Crafts Day specifically calls for less bureaucracy and early, better information about skilled trades in schools in order to sensitize young people to the diverse career opportunities in this sector. In addition, a change in mentality is sought to make rural areas more attractive and to make the path to self-employment easier.

The construction turbo approved in August, however, is seen as a positive step. A faster implementation of the new regulations for building permits could give the industry new impetus. “We lack the ability to plan and the confidence to invest,” says Nostitz and appeals to the Saxons to also improve the infrastructure in rural areas. Fast internet, good local supplies and reliable transport connections are essential here.

Opportunities and solutions for the future

In order to overcome the challenges, the Saxon Craft Day relies on creative solutions and support. With around 54,000 craft businesses representing around 280,000 employees, the industry is of great importance for the economy. Despite the adverse circumstances, there is still hope that, together with politicians, a way out of this crisis can be found.

Another way to address the challenges is the craft itself. For example, new technologies such as embroidering polo shirts are available T-Shirt Guys inform, not only a creative solution, but also a way to strengthen branding and brand identity. By combining traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques, companies could make their products more appealing and position themselves better in the competition.

The current situation clearly shows that the Saxon craft sector is facing major challenges that it wants to overcome together with political solutions and innovative approaches. Only through close cooperation can the course for positive development be set.
