Hohnstein Castle will soon shine anew: a garden for the future!

In picturesque Saxon Switzerland, exciting things are currently happening at Hohnstein Castle. On July 3, 2025, during a construction site visit organized by Mayor Daniel Brade (SPD), the focus was on the progress of the renovation. This important measure will be carried out in several construction phases, the first of which aims to redesign the castle gardens. Construction began in August last year and the results are already visible. The dilapidated outer castle wall was completely rebuilt and in the future the castle garden will offer much more than just a view of the countryside.

The total costs for the first construction phase amount to around 4.5 million euros. This sum is made up of the city's own resources and funding from the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district as well as from the federal government and the Free State. “We did our homework and acquired the necessary funds,” reveals Brade, whose goal is to greatly increase the castle’s attractiveness for visitors. In the future, the castle garden will be redesigned as an event location with a stage and mobile bars. The installation of new electrical and water connections brings additional functionality to the facility, while old terraces had to be removed to make room for new climbing games and adventure areas.

A place for families and those seeking relaxation
