Chaos of accidents: moped driver seriously injured, drug driver arrested!

On June 15, 2025, the police department in Saxon Switzerland and the Erzgebirge announced that in the past few days the lively activity in the region was all too often characterized by difficult conditions. Traffic accidents, thefts and crimes were common, and some of the incidents occurred under the influence of drugs.

Particularly striking was the accident involving a 16-year-old moped driver who hit a braking Nissan Qashqai in Stolpen on Saturday evening. The young driver suffered serious injuries, while the female driver escaped with minor injuries. The material damage is estimated at around 20,000 euros Sächsische.de reported.

Violations under the influence of drugs

Drug abuse is a serious problem that threatens road safety. Several suspected cases have recently been registered, including a 44-year-old motorcyclist in Bad Schandau who was involved in a serious accident after fleeing from the police. Police determined he was under the influence of amphetamines. Overall, the number of traffic accidents under the influence of drugs increased from 2004 to 2023, as Statista documents.

The focus was also on several other road users who were caught driving under the influence of drugs. A 19-year-old was stopped in Wilsdruff, and a 20-year-old e-scooter driver in Freital also failed a check. The police are discussing measures to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs in order to further increase road safety.

Unusual thefts

The theft statistics in the region are also alarming. In Lichtenhain, an orange and black KTM 390 Duke worth around 4,000 euros was stolen from the hiking car park. There was also a notable incident in Freital, where unknown perpetrators stole a town sign. The property damage here amounts to around 400 euros, which shows that not only cars but also everyday structures are targeted by thieves.

Week after week, the police are called upon to investigate crimes and to strengthen the population's sense of security through checks. Increasing police presence in affected areas could be a first step in curbing both drug abuse and increased theft cases.

The reports show that local authorities are continuously working to improve the situation in the region, while citizens are called on to be vigilant in order to ensure their safety and to immediately inform the police of any suspected cases.
