Dohna is planning upheaval: exit from the industrial park causes heated debate!

Things are simmering in Dohna: The city is now seriously planning to part with its long-standing industrial park partnerships with Pirna and Heidenau. This step is no coincidence. The Dohna city councilors have been calling for this withdrawal for six years, and dissatisfaction with the joint development in the industrial park is growing. Opinions on the planned projects vary significantly. This has now led to a dramatic increase in the costs of the development plan, which have shot up from the original 140 million euros for 140 hectares to a whopping 172 million euros for just 86 hectares. As a result of this price explosion, the development of the area was initially stopped in 2024 until there were concrete buyers, as saechsische.de reports.

The Dohna city council has now decided on four key points and a wish to regain decision-making authority over urban areas. The heart of these plans is a development plan for around 16 hectares in Dohna. The measures being considered include suspending Reppchenstrasse from the motorway feeder road in order to increase safety at the Kuxberg intersection. In addition, a traffic light is to be installed at the intersection with the A17 entrance towards Prague in order to minimize truck traffic through the market. This innovation would direct truck drivers who miss the turnoff directly to the highway without burdening the city center area.

Strong together for the future

The projects are not just to be seen as individual measures, but are to be implemented in six construction phases, with a reserve even being planned for a later expansion of the area. A minimum distance of 100 meters from the nearby residential buildings “An der Bodlitz” is also required in order to respect the quality of life of the residents. A not insignificant point when you consider how important it is to include social concerns in urban development, as staedtetag.de emphasizes.

In Dohna, a new unity has developed at the political level, which was often a sought-after commodity in the past. Mayor Ralf Müller emphasizes that this cooperation has reached a “new quality”. The goal is clear: Dohna wants to have a say in the sale of industrial park land, which makes it necessary to change the industrial park's statutes. This requires a two-thirds majority, which means that Pirna must also support the plans. In the association meeting, Pirna has six votes, while Dohna and Heidenau each have three votes, which makes the negotiations even more exciting.

Where does the path lead?

The future of Dohna depends on the upcoming developments and their implementation. The update of the land use plan of the Dohna-Müglitztal administrative community has already been approved and specifies the intended use of land in the city. The chances are good if political decision-makers work in harmony with citizens and economic demands. Ultimately, it is the mix of residential, commercial and industrial areas as well as green spaces that make the city so attractive and will shape future life in Dohna.

The next few months will certainly be exciting, because Dohna is faced with the challenge of turning a sustainable urban development strategy into a lasting reality. The will to change is strong, and the people of DOhna seem ready to actively shape their city. Will they have a good hand at it? We'll keep you updated!
