Edmundsklamm opens again after forest fires: this is how you can drive!
Hřensko, Tschechien - The long waiting time has come to an end! From July 19, 2025, the Edmundsklamm in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains will be accessible to visitors again. After over three years of closure due to the devastating forest fires in the summer of 2022, one of the most impressive natural attractions in Bohemian Switzerland returns to the tourist map. One reason to joy, because the gorge attracts thousands of visitors every year who want to enjoy the picturesque landscape. The first barges are already planned for the Saturday after the reopening Sächsische.de reports.
What makes the Edmundsklamm so special? The approximately 900 meter long gorge is flowed through by the Kamenice River and presents a unique vegetation that is reminiscent of the flora of higher mountain regions. This natural spectacle is not only a paradise for hikers, but also offers impressive views of the steep rock walls and bizarre rock formations on the barge. In order to ensure the security of the guests, access is initially limited to 50 people per day, and exploration is only carried out in the context of guided tours. A direct migration to the neighboring wild gorge is not possible because the boats have to reverse at the end of the journey. Also elbelabe.eu emphasizes that the tickets are only available on site in the tourist information in Hřensko, and only for the current day-reservations are not possible.
The effects of the forest fires
The closure of the gorge had become necessary after the largest forest fire in the history of Czech Republic destroyed over 1000 hectares of space in 2022. Charmed trees and falling boulders were a significant danger. The fire caused about 270 million crowns and lasted almost three weeks, which was heavily burdened by the Herrnskretsche community. Necessary security concepts and regular surveillance by experts were developed to enable a secure visit to the gorge, according to [Landesecho.cz] (https://landesecho.cz/unterweg/edmundsklamm-wald-jahl- after-waldbrand-wiederoeffnet/0023291/).
Part of the gorge is to be made accessible to local trial on July 15 and 16, before the general public can finally experience the beauty of the Edmundsklamm again on July 19, 2025. The boat trips take place daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April to October, depending on the weather. In poor conditions, the operators reserve the right to hire the trips. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and must note that dogs and strollers are not allowed for the time being.
a nature experience for all senses
The Edmundsklamm not only inspires with its breathtaking nature, but also with its history. In the 19th century, the area of Prince Edmund Clary-Aldringen was developed for tourism, and since then the gorge has been a highlight for nature lovers. The Kamenice gorges form between Vysoká Lípa and Hřensko and offer unique insights into the beauty of nature. Two barges in both directions are possible for adventurous visitors who are planning a hike through this impressive landscape.
In summary, with the reopening of the Edmundsklamm, not only a piece of nature awaits us, but also an experience that creates memories. Pack your hiking shoes and get ready for an adventure in the middle of the natural pearl of Bohemian Switzerland!Details | |
