Croatians arrested at the border crossing for property crimes!

On Sunday evening, July 6, 2025, a 47-year-old Croatian was arrested at the Breitenau border crossing in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Mountains. How sächsische.de reported, this arrest took place as part of an entry control in which an international arrest warrant was available for ownership offenses. This was issued by the Croatian authorities. After the arrest, the man was immediately demonstrated by the judge and is now in the Dresden correctional facility.

But there are currently headlines not only in Saxony. An alarming trend is evident in Germany and worldwide: violence against women has increased worrying. According to a current position of the BKA, which was published by n-tv , the figures on sexualized crimes and domestic violence are particularly worrying. In 2023, over 52,300 women were victims of sex crimes in Germany, which corresponds to an increase of 6.2% compared to the previous year. Domestic violence has also increased with around 180,700 female victims.

social challenges

The data are alarming: 360 female female were recorded in Germany last year, which means that women were specifically killed out of hatred of women. The BKA Vice President Michael Kretschmer made it clear that this problem is an increasing social concern. Politically motivated crime with misogynistic prejudices even rose by 56.3% to 322 cases, including many bodily harm.

The federal government reacts to this development and called for tougher punishments, anti-violence training and the use of electronic ankle cuffs for perpetrators. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser sees the need to implement the demands of the Istanbul Convention to combat violence against women.

global dimensions

In an international context, the situation is no less worrying. A joint report by Unodc and UN-Women shows that 85,000 women and girls were killed worldwide in 2023. The terrifying balance sheet: Every ten minutes, a woman or girl dies through the hand of a nearby relative, like parents or siblings. This illustrates how deeply rooted the problem is in many societies.

The data and reports not only require increased attention and measures to the female gender, but also globally. The international day to remove violence against women on November 25th reminds us every year of the need to act against this humanitarian crisis.

The current developments in the Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge district and beyond should all shake us up. It is time for us to work together for a society in which women can feel safe.
