Neustadt gets a new rescue station: construction begins for lifesavers!
Neustadt in Saxony will be in focus on September 30, 2025, as the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new ASB rescue station took place here. Among the participants were District Administrator Michael Geisler, Mayor Alexander Sachse and Alexander Penther, Managing Director of ASB OV Neustadt/Sachsen e. V., and Paul Krell, head of the ASB rescue service. Everyone agreed: The conversion of a former commercial property on Andreas-Schubert-Straße is a crucial step towards improving emergency care in the region.
The planned renovation covers both floors of the building with a total area of around 2,100 square meters. A modern rescue station with an efficient vehicle and washing hall will be built on the ground floor, while the upper floor will be designed as a training and emergency care center. This center will be used particularly in major disasters such as floods or fire disasters. It is also equipped with a self-sufficient power and food supply, which is extremely important in crisis situations.
Progress and future outlook
The shell construction work began on September 15th, and the new rescue station is expected to be put into operation on November 1st, 2027. This makes it part of the current rescue service area plan and is a unique project in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. The equipment includes, among other things, a vehicle hall with six gates and a training area with two divisible rooms, which will significantly support the emergency services in their daily work.
In addition, two new rescue transport vehicles were handed over, which will be put into service from October 2025. These vehicles are equipped with the latest medical technology, including ventilators and defibrillators, and cost 316,000 euros each. These investments in emergency care are necessary because, as some experts emphasize, the overall situation of emergency care in Germany is often inconsistent and is only improving slowly. The traffic light coalition had sought to reform these grievances, but this failed before it was passed.
Emergency care in a nationwide context
The differences in the quality and speed of emergency care vary greatly from state to state. While in some regions the ambulances get to the scene quickly, in others there are long delays. There are also different standards in the control centers that coordinate operations. While some control centers with first responders offer telephone support, others lack this. In order to address these problems, the Björn Steiger Foundation and members of the traffic light coalition have called for reforms that aim to harmonize emergency care nationwide.
Overall, the project in Neustadt in Saxony shows that the groundbreaking not only creates a new building, but also sets an example for improvements in emergency care. The new rescue station will play a central role in the security architecture of rural areas and sustainably improve the working conditions for the emergency services. If operational in 2027, this could represent an important step towards more reliable emergency care.
For the Neustadt region in Saxony, this conversion is a real gain in health infrastructure and sets standards for future projects. Not only is the equipment modernized, but the weight of emergency aid is also noticeably increased, which ultimately benefits all citizens.
