Mysterious withdrawal: District manager Thorsten Mager leaves Potschappel!
There is a remarkable development in Freital: Thorsten Mager, who worked as district manager in Potschappel until the summer of this year, has pulled the ripcord and withdrawn from this position at his own request. How Sächsische.de reported that the position has been vacant since then and there is currently no advertisement for a successor. This was confirmed by both the city and the SKE municipal development company.
Thorsten Mager is no stranger to the region. He is also the chairman of the Biotec support group and has been involved in a wide range of activities in Freital so far. However, on September 1, 2024, he will take on a new challenge and work as a neighborhood manager as part of the “Freital – Urbanity on the River” funding area. This shows once again that he has a good knack for representing the interests of his district WGF Freital explained.
A new chapter for Potschappel
With Mager, SKE-Kommunalentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH will employ an experienced man who knows the local conditions very well. As a 55-year-old with an overview of the situation of businesses on Dresdner Straße and a broad network in the city, he will act as a link between residents, clubs, daycare centers, schools and the city administration. This was also confirmed by Mayor Uwe Rumberg, who praised Mager's election.
The district management will concentrate on the design of the city center, the establishment of retailers and restaurants and the improvement of the district. The establishment of a district office in a former shop at Dresdner Straße 54, which will open its doors from September 2024, will offer citizens office hours and information materials. A disposal fund is also intended to provide financial support for small-scale measures and project ideas.
Outlook on the challenges
The “Living Centers” (LZP) funding program creates a solid financial basis that can be used for regional development until 2032. But the city also faces challenges: vacant shops and an unfavorable industry structure could slow down the progress of urban development. Mager and his team have a lot to do to create an attractive district center while at the same time improving the urban climate, digitalization and accessibility in public spaces.
It remains to be seen how the situation in Potschappel will develop. However, with Thorsten Mager as neighborhood manager and a clear strategy that is geared to the needs of the citizens, the chances for positive changes are not bad. The city has already made progress in its renovation and there is great anticipation for the coming year.
