Terrible rear-end collision in Pirna: 84-year-old injured!

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, a rear-end collision occurred on Rottwerndorfer Straße in Pirna, which resulted in an 84-year-old woman being injured. The lady was driving her Peugeot 206 when the driver of a VW Golf had to slow down due to traffic. Unfortunately, the senior citizen was unable to react in time and crashed into the vehicle. The material damage amounts to around 5,500 euros, as the Sächsische Zeitung reports.

Such accidents are not uncommon on the roads. Loud Statista Around 2.5 million road traffic accidents were registered in Germany in 2024. However, given the increasing number of accidents resulting in property damage, the number of accidents resulting in personal injury remains at a comparable level to decades ago. The fact is that the most common causes of traffic accidents are insufficient distance, inadequate speed and the influence of alcohol.

Traffic situation in the region

Speaking of traffic safety: The police in Saxony point out several current traffic restrictions that could make life more difficult for drivers. There is a traveling construction site on the A4 between Löbauer Wasser Nord and Bautzen-Ost. This work will result in a closure of the hard shoulder from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 3, 2025 - just the right time to drive carefully.

In addition, numerous construction sites are planned in the region, which will influence the traffic situation until October. Among other things, the A4 between Bautzen-Ost and Löbauer Wasser Süd rest area will only be accessible with speed limits of 80 km/h until September 13, 2025. Disruptions due to repair work are also to be expected on the bypass roads and in the cities.

  • Aktuelle Baustellen:
  • A4 Dresden Richtung Chemnitz: Ausfahrt Wilsdruff bis 22. Oktober 2025 gesperrt.
  • B173 Dresden: Verkehrsbehinderung aufgrund eines defekten LKW.
  • B156 Bautzen – Senftenberg: Baustelle mit geänderter Verkehrsführung bis zum 31. Juli 2026.

Drivers should also exercise particular caution on the A17 between Pirna and Bahretal, where there are changed traffic routes until October 24th.

What's next for road safety?

In recent years, Germany has formulated ambitious road safety goals, under the motto “Vision Zero” there should be no more traffic deaths by 2050. This is a challenge that is not easy to overcome given human errors such as inattention and recklessness. According to statistics, the number of road deaths in Germany in 2024 will remain below the EU average at 2,770 people, but this does not make up for the fact that many people will continue to be injured or lose their lives in accidents.

In the Pirna region it remains exciting to see how road safety will develop and what measures will be taken to reduce the number of accidents. In the meantime, it makes sense to drive with particular attention and caution to ensure your own safety and that of other road users.
