Telekom expands mobile network: 98% coverage achieved in the district!

There is good news for all mobile phone users in the Saxon Switzerland-Oster Ore Mountains district! Deutsche Telekom has further improved its service and put two new antenna locations into operation in Dippoldiswalde and Pirna. This initiative not only brought about an expansion of the infrastructure, but also an increase in mobile phone coverage to an impressive 98 percent in the region Sächsische reported.

But that wasn't all: mobile communications will also be expanded in three other cases, so that Telekom now operates a total of 133 transmission masts in the district. The demand for bandwidth is growing continuously – by around 30 percent annually. In order to meet this challenge, the company has ambitious plans: in the next three years, a further 45 locations are to be added and 64 existing mobile phone locations are to be expanded with modern technologies such as LTE and 5G, as Presseportal highlights.

Collaboration with municipalities

One of the prerequisites for future expansion is close cooperation with municipalities and property owners. Telekom is actively working on leasing space for new locations, whereby landlords can benefit from long-term, local rent. These partnerships are crucial for the implementation of the expansion plans in order to further optimize and expand the network.

Deutsche Funkturm is responsible for the construction of the new cell phone sites and thus ensures that the technology remains state-of-the-art. In total, Telekom operates around 36,000 mobile phone locations throughout Germany and is viewed as the provider with the best mobile network. Important emergency call technologies such as Advanced Mobile Location (AML) are also supported via the expanded mobile phone locations. In the event of an emergency, this technology automatically transmits the caller's location to the rescue control center.

Technological progress for everyone

Another important aspect is the Cell Broadcast warning system, which sends danger messages to cell phones in the affected radio cells. This significantly improves security and emergency communication and offers citizens additional security. For more information about mobile phone coverage in Germany, users can use the interactive mobile phone map from the [Bundesnetzagentur](https://www.bundesnetzagentur.de/DE/Vportal/TK/Internet Telefon/Mobilfunkbedarf/start.html). This provides current information on mobile communications standards such as 2G, 4G and 5G and enables users to report dead spots.
