Culture in Saxony is given a new stage: This State Office for Monument Preservation Saxony (LfD) An exciting exhibition opens today that focuses on the rich heritage of the Saxon monument archive. This exhibition takes a look at the most important special collections in the field of monument preservation that exist in Germany.
The Royal Saxon Monument Archive was founded as early as 1908 with the support of the Saxon Ministry of the Interior, and since then the LfD has taken care of the extensive collection. The aim of these efforts is to capture and describe the uniqueness of the cultural monument. Visitors can look forward to previously unknown treasures that the exhibition puts in a new light.
Diverse exhibits and topics
The exhibition byNovember 6, 2025 to February 27, 2026can be seen in the Ständehaus in Dresden and includes a variety of impressive exhibits. The exhibits include 64 architectural drawings, 108 photographs, postcards and slides, 26 written documents and 68 publications. A door leaf from the 14th century, a bronze bell from 1581 and an original lamp from the Carola Bridge in Dresden are also part of this collection.
The documentation about the preservation of monuments after 1945 and the re-gothicization measures in the Chemnitz Castle Church around 1868 are particularly fascinating. Upheavals in the 19th century, illustrated by the cities of Freiberg, Wurzen, Zwickau and Leipzig, are also discussed. For the first time, the exhibition shows sheets on water art in Bautzen and Meissen Cathedral, which document the development and recording of these cultural monuments.

To ensure a smooth visit, security checks in the Ständehaus must be observed. An accompanying program with lectures and public tours is also offered. Registration is required for this. A series of postcards and calendars for the exhibition are also being planned to offer visitors a reminder of the art they experienced.
