Comic buses in Vogtland: Invitation to volunteer in civil protection!

There is a fresh and innovative project in Vogtland that promotes volunteer work. Two school buses with comic design are now on the streets and promote civil protection. The campaign, which was created in cooperation between the Vogtlandkreis district office and the Vogtland transport association, aims to attract young people in particular to volunteer work. The buses not only provide practical information, but also a cheerful and inviting appearance.

The design of these buses is based on an existing volunteer campaign run by the Vogtland district and shows cartoon characters that embody real emergency services from the region. Slogans like “Be part of a strong team” or “Save – Delete – Rescue – Protect” are messages that are intended to encourage passers-by to think. At the official handover, District Administrator Thomas Hennig emphasized that these buses serve as invitations to volunteer work, which is essential in a community.

Strong together for the future

The new initiative is in line with nationwide efforts to promote volunteer work in civil defense and disaster control. The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BBK) has launched the “No matter what you can do, you can help” campaign, which aims to inspire more people to volunteer. This is done, for example, with free information materials that are to be displayed in local institutions. Materials range from flyers to giveaways that appeal to potential volunteers.

Around 1.7 million people in Germany are currently involved in voluntary civil and disaster protection; the most important organizations include the Technical Relief Agency (THW), the German Red Cross (DRK) and the volunteer fire department. This wide variety of activities shows that there is the opportunity for everyone to get involved in a meaningful way. The information materials can be ordered or downloaded from the BBK website and offer an interactive map of Germany for interested citizens.

Mastering future challenges

However, the future of volunteering is not without challenges. There is a clear need for new concepts to ensure voluntary work in voluntary fire brigades and aid organizations. For this purpose, the BBK has set up the N.I.4 department, which acts as a central contact and, in addition to developing funding regions, also aims to strengthen networks between all those involved.

The hope is that this colorful and inviting form of advertising will lower barriers to volunteering and inspire a new generation of volunteers. Giving the emergency services of the future a platform – that is the declared goal of this creative campaign. Whether in Vogtland or nationwide, volunteering remains an important part of our society, the value of which should be continually recognized and promoted.
