Unilever invests 15 million euros in Auerbach - jobs secured!
Today there is a celebration in Auerbach in the Vogtland region! To mark the 35th anniversary of the Knorr factory, Unilever has announced an impressive investment of 15 million euros to further expand the site and make it future-proof. The new developments could be a real stroke of luck for the region.
How Borken newspaper reported that 10 million euros will flow into a brand new production line designed exclusively for snack products. This line will be able to produce up to 100 million cups of ready meals per year - prepared simply by adding water. A concept that capitalizes on the growing popularity of quick, convenient meals.
From dry soups to world snack championships
The Auerbach location has a long tradition: dry soups and seasonings have been produced here since the 1940s - production has been running under the renowned Knorr brand since 1990. Unilever took over the plant, which produces key products such as packet soups and spaghetteria, in 2000. Auerbach is currently the most important production site for such items in Europe, and in addition to the seven fully automated packaging lines, more than 8,000 tons are produced annually. That's enough to optimally meet the demand for the popular snack pots.
The new facility is intended to not only expand Auerbach into a competence center for mini meals and snack products, but also to overcome existing concerns about job losses. Last year there were still plans to reduce jobs, which worried many employees. But the new investments show that Unilever sees potential in this location and is ushering in a positive turnaround that also affects the staff. Union representatives hope to expand working hours from a one-shift operation to two or even three shifts. More work, better prospects - but it remains exciting to see how quickly this positive development will unfold.
Political support and a look into the future
Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer praised Unilever's efforts and emphasized the plant's close ties to the region. The increasing demand for snack products in recent years speaks for itself and Unilever plans to target the location specifically to these growth segments. The group generates annual sales of 60.8 billion euros and employs over 128,000 people worldwide - great support!
The decision for the new production lines not only shows the confidence in the future of the location, but also the opportunities that Auerbach offers. Who knows, perhaps the plant will soon be listed as a prime example of successful structural change in the region. It remains to be seen how the implementation of the new products will progress and what impact this positive development will have on employees. One thing is certain: Auerbach remains exciting!
Press portal highlights that Unilever, with its big plans and clear focus on snacks, is on the right track to continue to be successful in the future.
