The risk of forest fires has become increasingly important in recent years, particularly in the northeastern federal states of Germany. Between 1991 and 2017, a significant decrease in forest fire areas in Germany was found, while the risk remained constant or even increased in some places, primarily due to climatic conditions. The years 2018 and 2019 were particularly characterized by extreme drought, which led to a further increase in forest fires.
