Trouble with fines: Parking spaces at Planitzer Markt are melting away!
In the heart of Zwickau, at the popular Planitzer Markt, there is a lot of buzz. Currently there are only three parking spaces available for arriving customers, which not only annoys visitors but also business owners. The large parking lot is closed due to construction work, and this leads to a real outcry, especially from Karsten Freitag, operator of the “Eisbär” restaurant. He expresses his displeasure with the public order office, which punished illegal parking harshly despite the adverse circumstances. “In this situation, the public order office could be a little more lenient,” raged Freitag. The city, on the other hand, emphasizes that everyone must adhere to stopping and parking bans. But the weeks-long parking shortage is causing frustration among residents and visitors.
Freitag has come up with something: In order to alleviate the annoyance about the tickets a little, he is planning to offer everyone who has received a ticket in the last three days a 10 euro voucher. However, it remains to be seen whether this will assuage discontent over the lack of parking space.
Traffic disruptions due to construction work
But that's not the only thing that's currently bothering drivers in Zwickau. The city has published the current construction site overview, which is regularly updated every Friday. The overview shows the numerous traffic disruptions currently caused by road and path work. Major restrictions are to be expected, for example between July 28th and August 9th on Lichtentanner Straße, which will be completely closed between the roundabout and Kohlenstraße. And that's just the beginning - the Lindenallee will also not be accessible from July 30th until probably August 29th.
In addition, drivers must be prepared for the full closure of Bürgerschachtstrasse, which is divided into several phases. During the first phase from July 28th to August 1st it will be completely closed, before there will be a partial closure with traffic light regulations from August 1st to August 8th. This will be followed by the next full closure, which could last until the end of September. The Römerplatz will also have to be closed for a few days from July 28th due to a renovation of the ceiling.
Growing list of construction sites and their effects
The list of construction sites in Zwickau is long and causes additional traffic disruptions: From Freiheitsstrasse to Zwickauer Strasse to Karl-Marx-Strasse - according to the city, the various works will continue until the end of the year and will also include numerous other streets, such as Georgenplatz, Lessingstrasse and Marienstrasse.
The city administration has pointed out that the duration of the closures can change at any time, depending on construction processes and weather conditions. This means drivers can expect even more changes to traffic flows in the coming weeks.
In summary, the traffic situation around the Planitzer Markt and throughout Zwickau is anything but relaxed. Residents and business owners are hoping for a quick solution to the parking problem and for a certain level of understanding from traffic authorities. Because even with patience, Zwickau has experienced a lot of construction site and parking lot trouble.
If you have to go out on the road, you should plan well and keep yourself informed about current construction sites and parking options. It remains to be hoped that the situation will soon ease and the city of Zwickau will once again become a place where parking is easy and traffic flows smoothly.
