Hopes for promotion: Handball women fight in a new league format!
What a handball year we have ahead of us! With the new 2024/25 season things will be exciting in the women's handball world. The Handball world reports that the 1st Handball Bundesliga Women will start with twelve teams, while the best decisions will be made in the play-offs. An outstanding event is the return of SV Union Halle-Neustadt to the top league, while TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen has to make the bitter transition to the 2nd league.
There are three newcomers in the 2nd Women's Handball Bundesliga. There is Rostocker HC, which is making its comeback after 2010, as well as SG 09 Kirchhof and HSG Freiburg, both of which have been promoted to the second division. In the 3rd league this year, 48 teams are fighting in four seasons for promotion to the 2nd handball Bundesliga. However, this exciting promotion round will be reduced to 36 teams from next season, which increases the risk of relegation, as reported by HL Sports mentioned.

Current developments in the 3rd league
In the 3rd league, teams face major challenges: The Kicker stated that SV Henstedt-Ulzburg had already secured relegation early. In contrast, SG Todesfelde/Leezen has to accept relegation to the regional league. It is noteworthy that there will be no direct promotion to the 2nd HBL this season, which means that the teams in places 9 to 12 are particularly in the firing line.
Another exciting aspect is the qualification of the top two from each relay for the promotion round. This system change promises an exciting race in terms of advancement. Teams like Rostocker HC and SV Grün-Weiß Schwerin have positioned themselves excellently and are fighting for promotion. But the teams that are in the relegation places will also do everything they can to stay in the league.
Handball fans can prepare for an adventurous season in which every game could be decisive. It remains exciting to see how the leagues develop and which teams will ultimately achieve the big success!
