Drunk attack on Zwickau pharmacy: 100 euro robbery failed!
In recent days, the police situation in Germany has come into greater focus again after a particularly brazen attack in Zwickau caused a stir. A 23-year-old robbed a pharmacy on Bahnhofstrasse yesterday and was armed with a knife. The attack occurred on Thursday afternoon when the perpetrator demanded a powerful painkiller from two employees. However, they did not give in, whereupon the man readjusted his plans and ended up pocketing three packs of another drug worth 100 euros before running away. That reports Radio Zwickau.
The police were able to arrest the perpetrator a short time later on Bachstrasse. When he was arrested, it was discovered that he had an impressive blood alcohol content of 3.86 per mille and needed to be urgently taken to hospital. As it also turned out, the young man had previously broken into an apartment on Lutherstrasse, where he stole three knives. Because of these crimes, he now has to answer for aggravated robbery and theft in a particularly serious case.
Tense security situation
The worrying developments bring back memories of similar incidents in other cities, such as a violent attack on a pharmacist in Hanover-Ricklingen. On Sunday evening, two men broke into the apartment of a 36-year-old, injured him with a baton and demanded the key to his pharmacy. While one of the perpetrators stole cash from the pharmacy, the other held the family in the kitchen. In this case, the investigation into hostage-taking and aggravated robbery is still ongoing. The pharmacy remained closed for forensic investigation after the incident, which led to dissatisfaction among waiting customers who were turned away despite making an appointment. Details can be found on Pharmacy Adhoc.
Unfortunately, the two incidents are part of a larger problem: According to the statistics on violent crime in Germany Statista available, violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police. Nevertheless, they have a strong influence on citizens' sense of security. Around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in 2024, the highest number since 2007. The increase in violent crimes is striking, especially among young perpetrators, where around a third of suspects are under 21 years old.
Protective measures and prevention
Due to these alarming developments, more and more pharmacies and shops are considering increasing their protective measures. After the attack, the pharmacist in Hanover plans to increase security in order to better protect himself and his employees. The population's sense of security is suffering as a result of these incidents, and the number of acts of violence against rescue workers has also reached an all-time high. It is a clear appeal to society to work together for greater security and respectful coexistence.
The current incidents illustrate how important it is for society to keep its eyes open and act quickly. Calls for witnesses, as in the case of the pharmacy in Hanover, are crucial to holding the perpetrators accountable and preventing future crimes.
