In the city of Zwickau there is news about the Cainsdorfer Bridge, which has been guiding road users over the Mulde since 1932. The project itself includes five structures, including two ramps and around 1.5 kilometers of new roads. The construction work is expected to take around three years. It is particularly important that a new bridge for road traffic is first built 300 meters downstream. This consists of two structures: the first crosses the railway tracks and the Mulde, while the second leads over the B93. After its completion, the old, dilapidated bridge will be demolished. The construction of two new bridges for pedestrians and cyclists is also planned to improve connectivity in the region.
Important details about the project
As is known, the Cainsdorfer Bridge was in poor condition, which led to a fundamental decision by the city council in 2008 to build a new one. The tonnage limit had to be reduced from the original 7.5 tons to just 3.5 tons, and the top speed was also limited to just 10 km/h. All of this shows that renovation is no longer possible and a replacement building remains unavoidable. The total cost of the project is estimated at around 30 million euros, with funding based on a mix of federal (50%), railway (33%) and state (17%) funds.
