FSV Zwickau: New talents, old challenges – on to the 60 point mission!
FSV Zwickau starts the new season with a clear plan and relies on continuity. After a solid last season in which they collected an impressive 60 points and took fourth place, those responsible around sports director Robin Lenk decided to strengthen the team in certain areas. Coach Rico Schmitt has set the same number of points as his goal for the coming season, which underlines the club's ambitions. Even if the competition should not be underestimated, the FSV seems to be well prepared.
The club was able to announce a total of six new additions, who come from different regional league teams. These include new faces like Daniel Haubner, who last played at ZFC Meuselwitz and played in all games there last season. He scored an impressive 11 points, including seven goals and four assists. Gabriel Figurski Vieira, a third-leading goalscorer for Hertha Zehlendorf, will also add a fresh touch to the team after scoring eight goals in 28 games. The talented players Jasper Kühn from Zehlendorf and Lennert Möbius from Eilenburg were also signed.
A weak finish and fresh hope
However, Zwickau also has to deal with the loss of numerous key players. Nine players have left the club, including captain Mike Könnecke, who had been part of the team for nine years. Star player Jahn Herrmann also rejected a contract extension in order to take the step into the 3rd league. That doesn't leave those responsible indifferent. Robin Lenk expresses sadness about Könnecke's departure, but at the same time sees potential in the new commitments.
The preparation for the new season was described as “unspectacular”. A training camp is not planned and the players should find themselves in their home environment. The team got off to a rocky start last season, with just seven points from their first eight games, highlighting the urgency and importance of solid preparation.
Setting the economic course
Another aspect that Lenk emphasized is the club's economic rationality. Despite the need to integrate new players, Zwickau will not invest in higher price ranges. The signings are assessed as “potential players”, which means that the FSV continues to rely on talent that needs to be developed. “Super-top stars” are not on the agenda – the club management has decided to stick with the philosophy that has brought success over the last two years.
It remains to be seen whether FSV Zwickau can build on their successes again in the new season. What is clear, however, is that you want to measure yourself against the 60-point mark and not against your position in the table. Given the strong competition facing many teams, it will be an exciting endeavor for coaches and players.
