Isabelle Zimmer brings bronze for SG Meerane 02 from the state youth games!

The badminton season in Saxony comes to an end with good news! At the State Youth Games in Dresden, the talented Isabelle Zimmer from SG Meerane 02 won valuable precious metal. Together with her partner Leni Töpfer from SG Bräunsdorf, she achieved third place in the U13 age group. In an exciting opening game they defeated the Klemm/White duo from BV Niedersedlitz, but had to admit defeat to the eventual winners Krüger/Zhang from Gridsee in the semi-finals. These successes show once again how strong the young badminton talent is in the region and how much potential there is in the young players, as the Freie Presse reports.

SG Meerane 02 can also look back on an interesting season in the district league. After being promoted again in 2022, the team was able to stabilize its performance and this time landed in sixth place out of a total of eight teams. With a balance of 10:18 points and a game ratio of 53:59, they were six points ahead of BV Marienberg II and seven points ahead of the bottom team BC Stollberg-Niederdorf II. What is particularly noteworthy is that this year the team mainly played with the same players as last year, apart from Julia Wecke, who moved to the first team.

Season highlights and player statistics

SG Meerane 02 achieved four wins, two draws and eight defeats in a total of 14 games. The players performed well in both singles and doubles. The results against the three strongest teams in the league, such as TSV Niederwürschnitz II and BV Annaberg-Buchholz, were tough, but the team managed to win two close games against fourth place, SG Bräunsdorf.

  • Einzel- und Doppelstatistik:
  • Marco Franke: 16:7 Bilanz, erfolgreich in sieben Einzel und neun Doppel
  • Enrico Wunderlich: 15:13 Bilanz, viele Erfolge im ersten Herren-Einzel
  • Diana Kahlich: 11:17 Bilanz bei den Damen
  • Laura Rudel: 5:8 Bilanz

The season was anything but relaxed, as most of the games were played away. Of the 14 games in total, there was only one home game and six guest games. A good reason why team chemistry and training among the players clearly play an important role, as the SG Meerane 02 website aptly states SG Meerane 02.
