News from Zwickau: Construction sites and road closures from Monday!
A varied program of construction work is imminent in Zwickau, and anyone who ventures onto the streets in the coming weeks should be prepared for one or two diversions waiting for them. From Monday, June 23rd, the expansion of the broadband network will result in a partial closure on Werdauer Straße. The section between the entrance to the “Am Windberg” gardens and house number 152 will be restricted to traffic until July 2nd. To ensure smooth traffic control, a traffic light system will be set up to ensure traffic flows as best as possible. As Blick.de reports, the work is being pushed forward at full speed.
Once you have mastered Werdauer Straße, you will immediately find what you are looking for: Reichenbacher Straße is also affected. This is particularly about the Freiheitssiedlung, where there will be a partial closure in the area of house numbers 1-2, 23-26 and 37 between June 23rd and July 18th. Here too, traffic lights show road users how best to proceed.
Other construction sites and their effects
While a good portion of infrastructure measures will already be taking place in Zwickau by the beginning of July, Motteler Straße will be examined from July 7th. There will be a thorough renovation of around 360 meters between the Marktsteig and the “Heimattreu” allotment garden area. This joint project by the city of Zwickau, WWZ and ZEV promises not only a new lane, but also new parking areas and a barrier-free, traffic-calmed expansion. The work that is taking place in the section from Christianstrasse to “Heimattreu” is scheduled to last until April 2027. Full closures in sections are being planned, but pedestrian accessibility will always remain a problem, as Neues Mitteldeutschland informs.
In addition, there are ongoing construction projects in Zwickau that are already leading to significant restrictions. The outer Plauensche Straße will be completely closed until April 17, 2025 because an important district heating pipeline is being laid here. Schneppendorfer Strasse will remain partially closed until April 4, 2025, while Hoferstrasse will be fully closed until March 20, 2025 due to civil engineering work to replace a 10 kV cable. The current restrictions are numerous and varied, which could make planning daily trips an adventure.
Recommendations and contact
It is important to show a little patience and understanding in the coming weeks and months, as the city administration asks all road users to cooperate with the delays caused by these necessary measures. For questions about waste disposal, please contact the Office for Waste Management, which can be contacted at 0375 / 4402-26600.
The desired infrastructure improvements are necessary and will certainly help ensure that Zwickau continues to be a place that remains attractive for its citizens and visitors. So if you plan cleverly and get information in good time, you can safely avoid the construction sites and enjoy the advantages of a modern Zwickau.
