Shocking accident in Crimmitschau: 20-year-old injured in car rollover!

A traffic accident occurred on Friday, October 4, 2025, in Crimmitschau and gave a 20-year-old driver a good dose of luck. At around 2:30 p.m., on Dänkritzer Landstrasse, the young woman drove her VW off the road in a left-hand bend. The reason for this incident is still unclear. Her car first hit a guide post and a tree before overturning and ending up with its roof in a ditch.

Fortunately, the driver was able to exit the vehicle independently and only sustained minor injuries. The VW, however, suffered a total loss and had to be towed away. In total, the damage caused amounts to around 20,000 euros, as Blick.de reports.

Accident numbers on the decline

The incident in Crimmitschau is part of a general trend. In 2024, around 2.5 million road traffic accidents were registered in Germany, which represents a decrease compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the number of accidents causing property damage is increasing, while the number of accidents causing personal injury remains largely stable, similar to the level of 1955. It is clear that the effort to reduce accidents still represents a major challenge.

Flashing lights show that there were a total of 2,770 traffic deaths in Germany in 2024 - a significant decrease from 19,193 in 1970. Despite this encouraging trend, the number of traffic deaths has slowed in recent years. The average in the EU in 2024 was 44 traffic deaths per million inhabitants, while Germany remains below this value at 33 per million inhabitants, as Statista notes.

Causes of accidents

The most common causes of traffic accidents with personal injuries are insufficient distance, inadequate speed and driving under the influence of alcohol. What is particularly striking is that 40% of all accidents that resulted in personal injuries were caused by alcohol. This presents the transport ministers with the challenge of realizing “Vision Zero” – no traffic deaths by 2050.

To get closer to this vision, better infrastructure and increased awareness among road users are necessary. The growing number of e-bike and e-scooter accidents, in which over 26,000 riders were injured or killed in 2024, also requires quick action. So road safety remains a hot topic as we face the everyday dangers on our roads.
