Serious accident in Aue: Four-year-old ran onto the street between cars

On Friday morning around 7:20 a.m., a serious traffic accident occurred in Aue on Gabelsbergstrasse, which affected a 4-year-old girl. The child suddenly ran into the street between two parked cars and was hit by a passing VW car. Unfortunately, the consequences were drastic; the girl suffered serious injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. The police have started investigating the exact circumstances of the accident in order to clarify the circumstances in more detail Blick.de reported.

Road accidents involving children are always a worrying issue. Interestingly, the statistics show a positive development: in recent years the number of children injured in traffic accidents has declined. Data from the Child Accident Atlas of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) shows that the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in particular increased between 2015 and 2019. While the number of accidents for pedestrians was reduced by 24.6% and for cyclists by 26.3%, there was also an increase of 13.9% for car occupants Bast.de leads.

The importance of road safety measures

In 2023, a total of 27,235 children in Germany were injured in road traffic, 44 of whom died. Tragically, 22 of these children are pedestrians. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) has therefore launched various programs that aim to increase road safety for children. This includes, among other things, a new campaign with Pumuckl as well as numerous training courses for parents in daycare centers, as the “Child and Traffic” initiative of the German Road Safety Council (DVR) shows BMV.de is explained in more detail.

Another important element in children's road safety concerns proper security in the car. Children up to 12 years old or shorter than 150 cm must be transported in child seats suitable for them. Although 99.5% of children ride safely, this is often not done correctly - only 35% use the seats according to the regulations.

The current situation makes it clear that despite general improvements in road safety, there is a constant need for action, especially in urban centers where children often travel as pedestrians and cyclists. Those responsible must have a good hand and continue to implement effective traffic education programs to ensure the safety of the youngest on the roads.
