Slapstick thief in Zwickau: Three car refugees and a crash!

There have been several spectacular traffic accidents in the city of Zwickau in the last few days, which impressively showed both those affected and witnesses how dangerous drug use while driving can be. On Tuesday evening, a 24-year-old man tried to steal three different cars in Zwickau-Oberhohndorf. The incident occurred on a property on Wildenfelser Strasse, where the thief initially drove up in a Mercedes but got stuck in a meadow. His second attempt to steal a Skoda ended when he pitted it against a Dacia. In the third attempt to steal a Dacia, he even crashed into a house wall. Witnesses of the incident immediately alerted the police, who arrested the man. During the arrest, it was discovered that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol, opiates and cannabis and did not have a driver's license. The material damage caused is estimated at around 4,000 euros. Radio Zwickau also reported on this incident, which seemed like a slapstick film.

But it wasn't just the stuck thief who made a name for himself. Another accident that happened on Sunday afternoon in Zwickau illustrates the risks of driving on drugs. A 26-year-old driver of a Mercedes wanted to turn left into Oskar-Arnold-Straße at an intersection even though the traffic light was red for him. He collided with a Ford whose 72-year-old driver was driving into the city on a green light. The passenger in the Ford, an 82-year-old man, suffered shock and had to be taken to hospital. As Blick reports, a preliminary drug test on the suspicious driver showed a positive result for cannabis, which led to a blood sample being taken in the hospital. The total damage to both vehicles amounts to an impressive 85,000 euros.

The dangers of drug use on the road

The incidents in Zwickau are not only shocking, they also shed light on a larger problem: the dangers of drug use on the roads. The Association against Alcohol and Drugs in Road Traffic (BADS), based in Hamburg, is committed to raising awareness about the risks of alcohol and other intoxicating substances. This non-profit association promotes traffic education and research in this area. It makes it clear how important it is to educate and take preventative action to prevent such incidents. According to BADS, the danger of drugs on the road should not be underestimated and the responsibility of each individual to drive safely plays a central role.

In summary, it can be said that the two accidents in Zwickau are not only due to those who caused them and their reckless behavior, but also to the need to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs. It is to be hoped that such incidents will occur less frequently in the future and that road safety will continue to be a top priority.
