A serious traffic accident at the Ludwigsdorf border crossing made headlines today. A 48-year-old driver had an accident on the A4 while entering Poland and paid for it with his life. The tragic scenario took place on the Neisse Bridge. The impact literally pushed another car, which was already at the end of the traffic jam, onto a third vehicle. While the suspected cause of the accident died on site, the 39-year-old had to be flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter in the stationary car. His passenger, a 45-year-old, suffered minor injuries.
The chaos on the highway
An eyewitness described the scene of the accident as “a field of rubble.” German and Polish rescue workers as well as the technical relief organization were quickly on site to get the situation under control. The motorway in the direction of Dresden remains loud MDR closed for several hours, which has already led to a traffic jam of around two kilometers on the Polish side. Travelers to Saxony have to be prepared for longer waiting times.
Police spokeswoman Anja Leuschner informed that the investigation had already begun and an expert had been called in to clarify the exact course of events. The measures will take several more hours, which further complicates the traffic situation.
