VW future in Saxony: Cupra Born or move to Wolfsburg?

Rumors are currently circulating about a possible relocation of production of the Cupra Born within the Volkswagen Group. While the current plan calls for the Cupra Born and other electric car models to roll off the assembly line in Wolfsburg and Emden from 2027, there is speculation that production could continue to take place in Saxony, particularly in Zwickau. This information was provided by News38 published.

A VW spokesman was cautious about the rumors, but he referred to statements by Daniela Cavallo, the works council chairwoman. This has made it clear that there are no plans to relocate production of the Cupra Born to Wolfsburg. According to Cavallo, production of the Tiguan and ID.3 is currently going so well that assembly line 1 is already sufficiently utilized. The Cupra Born could only come to Wolfsburg if the volume of the Tiguan allows it.

Sustainability in electric car production

Another aspect that should not go unnoticed in this context is the environmentally friendly orientation of the VW plants in Saxony. They have taken several measures to improve their environmental balance and reduce CO2 emissions in recent years. The plants in Zwickau, Dresden and Chemnitz obtain a large part of their green electricity from Volkswagen Kraftwerk GmbH, which generates sustainable energy through hydroelectric power plants as well as wind and solar parks. For example, a solar park owned by ENERPARC AG in Mosel near Zwickau supplies around 5.5 million kWh of electricity annually, which corresponds to the energy needs of around 2,200 three-person households ( Volkswagen ).

The city of Saxony is not only showing commitment to e-mobility, but is also purchasing more and more environmentally friendly energy that reduces the CO2 footprint of vehicle production. This is an important step for the entire industry and a clear contribution to sustainability, which is also valued by the population.

Wait for the decisions

However, the final decision on whether Cupra Born production will remain in Saxony or whether it will be relocated to Wolfsburg is still pending. The next strategic planning round in winter could bring more clarity here. Developments within the VW Group will continue to be closely monitored because they not only influence production processes, but also economic conditions and jobs.

So it remains exciting to see how the rumors surrounding the Cupra Born will develop. For Volkswagen's employees and the Saxony region it is clear: the future of electric cars and the associated production could be extremely crucial for the coming years - and possibly also for the entire automotive industry.
