The FSV Zwickau football team is showing its best side these days and is perceived as truly up-and-coming in the Northeast Regional League. Ahead of the league opener against champions Lok Leipzig, which is scheduled to take place soon, the signs are good: over 4,500 tickets have already been sold in advance, which is more than in the last two home opening games. The goal? A record attendance of 8,858 fans, which was achieved so far against Magdeburg in the 2019/20 season. The large crowds are a sign of continued fan interest, even during the holiday season. With a solid performance at the weekend at the Volkswagen Cup, where Zwickau drew 0-0 against VfL Wolfsburg, the team was able to attract attention again. Coach Rico Schmitt sees a positive development in the team, which is underpinned by last season. There Zwickau took fourth place in the regional league. This season is now seen as a decisive assessment for a possible promotion to the 3rd league. After the club survived some financial difficulties in 2023, the situation appears to have stabilized.
