Zwickau on the move: Record backdrop and new hope for promotion!
Zwickau, Deutschland - The FSV Zwickau soccer team shows its best side these days and is perceived as truly aspiring in the Regionalliga Northeast. Before the league start against the master Lok Leipzig, who will soon be on the program, the signs are good: over 4,500 tickets have already been sold in advance, which is more than in the last two home opening games. The goal? A viewer record of 8,858 fans, which was previously achieved against Magdeburg in the 2019/20 season. The big rush is a sign of the ongoing fan interest, even during the holiday season. As the kicker reports, the anticipation is noticeable and the club is on the right track.
With a solid appearance at the weekend at the Volkswagen Cup, where Zwickau played 0-0 against VfL Wolfsburg, the team was able to draw attention to itself again. Coach Rico Schmitt sees a positive development of the team, which is underpinned by the last season. There Zwickau took fourth place in the regional league. This season is now considered a decisive location for a possible promotion to the 3rd league. After the association survived some financial difficulties in 2023, the situation seems to have stabilized. In particular, the new captain Andrej Startsev, who was still missing due to foot problems, and the new vice captain Maximilian Somnitz, who was once considered an alternative player, stand for the departure.
Development of the number of spectators
A look at the number of visitors in recent years shows that the FSV Zwickau is in a positive trend. In the 2024/25 season, the association recorded an average number of viewers of 2,195 per game, which is a steady increase compared to the last three seasons. Last year it was only just over 1,000 spectators per game in the 3rd league. The club is now among the more respected teams in the region, such as the figures from Transfermarkt

future prospects
The management of the association is optimistic, because both trainer Rico Schmitt and sports director Robin Lenk are busy developing the team. Lucas Hiemann has established himself number 1 in goal, while Lucas Albert is new to the team council. Together they form a strong scaffolding for the coming season. The challenges that the association has been after the third division and the associated financial difficulties did not seem to have been for nothing. The 2025/26 season could be the next big step to return to the 3rd division.
The fans are looking forward to an exciting season that begins with a lot of vigor and high expectations. Zwickau is ready to face the climb!
