Zwickau is cycling strong: over 147,000 kilometers in CITY CYCLING in 2025!

CITY CYCLING in Zwickau was once again a complete success this year, as the city administration reported on June 17, 2025. With proud147,022 kmIn this year's campaign, Zwickau broke last year's record140,212 kmclearly exceeded. What is particularly pleasing is that the number of participants has increased687increased, more than twice as many as in 2022. Overall, participants cycled in86 teams.

The “Heimatverein Schlunzig” team showed a brilliant performance19,801 kmtook first place. Last year's team “Chives were yesterday” followed in second and third place17,761 kmand “Churches and Diakonie West Saxony”.16,933 km. Zwickau announces that participants still have a week to record their distances covered - meaning the final result may even increase.

Residents and climate: pedaling together

The conclusion of the CITY CYCLING took place on Monday evening in the form of a residents' meeting on wheels, where the city not only celebrated the successes, but also raised awareness of climate protection and sustainable mobility. CITY CYCLING aims to cover everyday journeys by bicycle and to promote the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly means of transport. The international competition concept has established itself as a successful method of motivating citizens to cycle.

According to the city, these measures also have a positive impact on cycling infrastructure, which is essential for a permanent switch from car to bike. Policy makers are encouraged to take the perspective of cyclists to identify weaknesses and strengths of existing infrastructure. The Germany-wide competition runs until the end of September 2025, so you can keep pedaling hard.

Motivation remains high

Zwickau is ranked lower in the nationwide ranking2991 municipalities, currently the288th placeand is therefore thesecond bestLocation below17 Saxon city cycling communities. If you look at the development of the last few years, Zwickau has improved greatly. The final status, including possible additions, is expected to be published at the beginning of July, while the final placements in the Saxony- and Germany-wide rankings will probably be announced in mid-November.
