Zwickau is making an ambitious start to the regional league – champions are waiting!
Things get down to business in the city of Zwickau! Just a few weeks before the start of the Regionalliga Nordost, sports director Robin Lenk gives a comprehensive insight into FSV Zwickau's preparations for the coming season. The setting is exciting, because Lok Leipzig, the reigning champions, is waiting right at the start, which underlines the demands of the FSV. “The start is challenging,” emphasizes Lenk and explains that the first three games are equally challenging: the home game against Leipzig is followed by away games in Eilenburg and Babelsberg as well as another home game against Jena, another promotion candidate.
The squad is already largely complete, which is seen as a positive sign. Lenk is pleased with the current status and emphasizes: “The squad is mostly solid, but there is a need for action in two positions.” Above all, the club is looking for a third goalkeeper and has Clemens Boldt in mind. He is currently completing a trial training session with Gladbach II. The forward lines are also being viewed critically, especially since Marc-Philipp Zimmermann, who at 35 is the only semi-professional in the squad, is no longer the youngest.

Financial situation of the club
The club has stabilized financially, after a critical phase with debts of around three million euros. Today the remaining liabilities amount to around 1.2 million euros. “Rejections on the transfer market are part of the business,” explains Lenk, referring to the club’s expressed interest in Jonas Nietfeld, whose transfer did not materialize due to financial restrictions. Nevertheless, the FSV's financial situation is now solid and they are working on professionalization, including by hiring an athletic trainer.
Preparations for the new season are in full swing, and the events surrounding FSV Zwickau show that there is a lot of potential for the coming regional league season. It will be interesting to see how the team performs in the first games and whether they take advantage of the opportunities to place themselves in the table.
