Zwickau pedals: record of 147,000 km in city cycling!

Cycling is very important in Zwickau, and the current season is... CITY CYCLING brings a breath of fresh air to the pedals. On June 17, 2025, the competition's number games are already promising: the Zwickau cyclists have covered an impressive 147,000 kilometers, exceeding the previous year's mark by an impressive 6,800 kilometers. The performance so far of 687 active participants, organized into 86 teams, impressively shows that cycling is catching on in the city. Almost twice as many people as last year got on the saddle and diligently racked up kilometers.

The competition, which has been running since the end of May, aims to cover as many everyday journeys as possible by bike in 21 days. The people from Zwickau have already covered over 96,000 kilometers in the first two weeks. Even though the number of participants has fallen slightly compared to last year, there are fortunately many new teams with creative names, while well-known groups such as the Zwickau municipal transport company, VW Sachsen and the Heinrich Braun Klinikum are continuing their commitment to cycling. The division of the teams is reflected in the rankings, with the local club Schlunzig at the top with 19,801 kilometers, followed by Team Chive and Team Kirchen and Diakonie Westsachsen.

The Zwickau city cycling has established itself as a popular event, and despite a slight decrease in the number of participants compared to 2024, the new team ideas are a fresh incentive. The final event on June 16th, a residents' meeting on wheels, is the highlight of the campaign and attracts other interested parties to the city center.

The final result of CITY CYCLING will not be known until September, as many cities are still working on their mileage. In contrast, Zwickau is already well on its way to surpassing last year's result of 142,423 kilometers.
