Zwickau Siren-Alarm: Next test on July 9 at 3 p.m.!
Especially in times when disaster protection and population security play an increasingly important role, the functionality of the siren systems is essential. For this reason, the fire brigade office of the city of Zwickau carries out regular reviews of the siren facilities. Today, on June 30, 2025, tests are coming up again: A total of 40 siren facilities will be tested in the city on the second Wednesday in the quarter, while 18 fire brigade sirens are also put through its paces every month. With the next trial alarm on Wednesday, July 9th at 3 p.m., the system goes through comprehensive control.
The trial alarm is initiated by a concise 12 second howl tone, followed by a voice announcement of the electronic sirens. These regular tests are not only routine, but also serve the security of the citizens. On August 13th and September 10, the next alarms of the conventional fire brigade sirens are planned. In addition, all siren systems will be checked again on October 8 to ensure that everything works smoothly.
The meaning of siren signals
But why do these sirens serve? Above all, the use of siren has a civilian purpose: the warning and all -clear of the population in an emergency. According to the information from district fire brigade Osnabrück the warning is carried out by a one-minute, swelling and swelling cry. This signal tone is an indicator that the population should switch on their broadcasting devices and pay attention to announcements. In the opposite case, if everything is okay, the one -minute moth is used for the all -clear.
In special dangers, such as floods or chemical accidents, a three -minute crybaby is issued. Here it is for the residents to visit shelter. The different signals are vital, and depending on the situation, they vary: While uninterrupted tones of fire alarm signals, an interrupted continuous tone indicates a disaster alarm.
siren promotion program and technical modernization
The importance of the siren system was underlined not least by events such as the flood disaster in 2021 and the past nationwide warning day 2020. These incidents have shown that many sirens in Germany no longer meet the current standards. A new siren promotion program, led by the Federal Office for Population Protection and disaster assistance ( bbk ) aims to modernize the technology of the sirens and create a uniform transmission network. A total of 14.5 million euros are available for this program for the years 2023 and 2024.
The cities and municipalities have to meet certain requirements in order to receive funding. This includes the possibility of buying new sirens that can send out the signals "population warning" and "all -clear". In addition, sirens operated by this funding program are also independently included. The municipalities are therefore called up to actively participate in the program and to increase the security of their citizens.
The regular tests of the sirens and the planned innovation measures are a clear step into a safe future. A good hand in population security finally pays off twice.
